Celebrities Who Have Written Essays And Been Awarded Degrees

The term celebrity is often misconstrued and frequently people forget that underneath famous people’s star status they are in fact a normal human being. Big named figures across the world gain popularity and media attention for various talents such as acting, singing or playing a sport. But few fans realise that behind their lavish lifestyle and persona many celebrities are intelligent and several icons have studied at university, written essays and earned degrees.

Lily Cole proved she has brains as well as beauty when the model was awarded a double first class from Cambridge which is possibly the highest possible honour from one of the UK’s esteemed universities. Pop star Kylie Minogue was given an honorary degree at the Anglia Ruskin University in America, which has ties with campuses in Essex and Cambridgeshire, in recognition for her work promoting breast cancer awareness. And her sister Danni Minogue has followed the degree path and been made an honorary Doctor of media. Moreover, six universities have bestowed author JK Rowling with honorary degrees although she probably didn’t need help with any custom essay writing services.

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall received an honorary degree from John Moores University in Liverpool in 2010 and Joe Brand has been awarded for her services to the entertainment industry. Similarly, Michael Flatley has been endowed for his contribution to the Irish society and Orlando Bloom was presented an honorary degree from the University of Kent. Both Joanna Lumley and Michael Douglas have been awarded honorary degrees from the University of St Andrews; and for his tireless efforts and use of his celebrity as a force for change, the University of Pennsylvania awarded rock band U2 frontman Bono an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

Further examples of celebrities that have cast their fame to the side line to concentrate on academics include singer Bob Geldof, who was given an honorary Master of Arts for his contribution to the arts and humanitarian work. And British teen star Emma Watson will soon be joining the ranks after writing her custom dissertation and completing her degree at America’s Brown University; although she has currently enrolled at Oxford in England for one year studies.
